WORDS FROM THE PAST0R

Pastor Joe B. Maddox

On behalf of the congregation, it is with great honor that I welcome you to visit the web site and the fellowship of the New Hope Missionary Church, 2504 Cecil Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee 37917. I am Pastor Joe B. Maddox.

I have been privileged to serve as pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church since February 16, 1986. I am married to my high school sweetheart Vivian Goodwin Maddox and the Lord has blessed us with two biological daughters, Tonya Maddox Lewis (Daniel) and Treasure Maddox Bell (Montorius). While we have no biological sons the Lord has endeared two, Reginald D. Winston (Lucinda), and Christopher Douglass (Andrea). We also have 7 (biological and endeared) grandchildren born between December 1997 and January 2005.

Our doctrine, here at New Hope, is quite simple—JESUS ALONE SAVES!! Sound biblical doctrine is absolutely crucial to mature in one’s relationship with the Lord. We believe a person needs to know in whom to believe, what to believe, and why he / she believes. New Hope is a Christ-centered ministry that preaches and teaches the Word of God.

Our vision is to: Educate for community and foreign discipleship. It is the desire of this church to see its members rooted and grounded in the Word of God. All members are encouraged to avail ourselves, not only for Sunday morning worship, but also for the teaching services on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Our mission is to carry out the Great Commission: Go and make disciples, and teach them to obey all of the commands of God, remembering that God is with us always (from Matthew 28:19-20). Being a mission-minded congregation, New Hope reaches outside the four walls of our church to serve our community, the Virgin Islands and Africa in word (by spreading the Gospel message) and in deed (by giving financially to those in need).

Our aim is to minister to common people with common needs. We are currently placing emphasis on our youth ministry. We understand the need to reach out to and disciple children during their developmental and formative years.

Our work, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, is to edify the body of Christ. Consequently, congregants are encouraged to seek God’s guidance in determining the area(s) of ministry in which they have a mind to work.

Please feel free to browse the web site and pay particular attention to the various ministries and auxiliaries here at New Hope. If you do not have a church home, we welcome you to join us in any and all of our preaching and teaching services.

I hope to see you soon.

Yours In Christ,

Pastor Joe B. Maddox
